Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

I hope that you are having a great Youth Day Weekend! I hope you also had a good start to the term and I want to thank the MT dept and Student Leadership Development team for starting off the term with the MT fortnight and the Prefects' Investiture and focus on Leadership.

Following up on our contact time last week, I wanted to emphasise again that who we are, that is, our "being", comes before what we do, and very often, students will remember who we are rather than the lessons we did for them. Recently, in a story from the Catholic News, an ex-Stephenian Seminarian now studying to become a Catholic priest, fondly recalled Anne Goh. I'm not sure why he chose to recall his time in St Stephen's, but it comes to show that who we are as Teachers really makes a very big difference and sometimes we may not even realise that we have left an impression on the boys. In the work ahead to create a positive and caring school, let us remember to focus a little on "being" who we are as Teachers, and again realise the immense value and significance we hold, more so than any other profession. Let's begin week 2 reflecting on this quote:

Doing is Never Enough if you neglect Being.

~Eckhart Tolle

Keep Believing and Serving,

  • Your video should NOT be longer than 3 minutes long. This is to allow your announcement to be played for at least 2 cycles.

  • Your video should also have subtitles for easy viewing.

  • Do take some time to look through these slides on how to export your PPT slides into a video file:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1tbsyQ3Ed5le0OVNQ479sQ7vQYV1zXwhs/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=111013151695603769549&rtpof=true&sd=true

We will only be able to showcase 4 to 5 videos for each recess schedule, so the booking is based on first-come-first serve.

*NEW*

Feedback was given that the audio from the TVs can be disruptive when getting the students ready for dismissal. Hence, teachers on recess duty, please use the remote controls from iGrow Hub (where the microphones are) to MUTE the TVs.

DO NOT switch off the TVs.

Once the pupils are dismissed, please unmute the TVs when you return the microphones back to iGrow Hub.

Class Seating Arrangement

By: Year Heads

Relevant Levels: All Levels

Date of Event/Programme/Item: Ongoing

Information Details:

With the ease of SMM measures, we are now able to organise our class seating arrangement. We no longer need to sit in rows of single file.

Some teachers might want the boys to sit in twos, threes or even in groups of five. But which is the better arrangement, considering the different needs and profile of students?

Do take few minutes of your free time to read through the pdf documents extracted from Chapter 5 of the Skillful Teacher.

After reading and understanding Matching Space to Instruction, Ownership and Privacy and Recommendation on Using Space, you would be in a better position on how you would like the boys to be seated.
