Principal's Update
Dear Colleagues,
I hope you had a good National Day celebrations this past week, and it was really nice to see the whole school come together for our National Day Celebrations. Some upper Primary boys came up to me after the celebrations to share that they really enjoyed the activities. I want to thank all the many teachers who put the whole celebrations together, especially the Music teachers for teaching this year's NDP song to the boys and for leading the singing, to the PE teachers, especially Sherwin, for leading the boys in the dance, to Brandon and the Scouts for the marching in, and the NE teachers for preparing the boys to lead the ceremony and prayers.
What’s on my mind in the next couple of weeks is the preparation to celebrate our 65th Anniversary and the re-opening of our Heritage Gallery on 1 Sep where we will also be celebrating Teacher’s Day. As I look through the past School annuals and hear the stories and testimonies of the ex-Teachers and ex-Stephenians, I wonder if we who are now entrusted to carry on the mission have a sense of the legacy and spirit of the educators who came before us. Even though the stories shared harks back to simpler times, they were confronted by challenges similarly daunting for their time, but they held together and pressed on with the same sense of purpose and mission. I was particularly inspired when Mr Don Magness left this piece of advice for us who now carry on this legacy and I leave it here for us to ponder on this week:
Love your job. Love your boys.
Teaching is not a profession. It's a vocation.
You got to go that extra mile.
~ Donald Magness, Stephenian Teacher
