Principal's Update
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to October! Before we know it, the year will close. I want to thank all of you for being adaptable and ably managing the PSLE, HBL and the P5 camp over these 2 weeks.
One of the things I enjoy about working in a Primary school is that we get to celebrate Children’s Day. As we pause to commemorate Children’s Day this week, let’s rekindle our own childlike wonder of the world and see the world through hope filled lenses, and here’s a short story and quote for this week to reflect on:
The Four Candles burned slowly. Their Ambience was so soft you could hear them speak...
The First Candle said, "I Am Peace, but these days, nobody wants to keep me lit." Then Peace's flame slowly diminishes and goes out completely.
The Second Candle said, "I Am Faith, but these days, I am no longer indispensable." Then Faith's flame slowly diminishes and goes out completely.
Sadly The Third Candle Speaks, "I Am Love and I haven't the strength to stay lit any longer. People put me aside and don't understand my importance. They even forget to love those who are nearest to them." Waiting no longer, Love goes out completely.
Suddenly...A child enters the room and sees the three candles no longer burning. The child begins to cry, "Why are you not burning? You are supposed to stay lit until the end!"
Then The Fourth Candle speaks gently to the little child, "Don't be afraid, for I Am Hope, and while I still burn, we can re-light the other candles."
With Shining Eyes the child took the Candle Of Hope and lit the other three candles.
Never let the Flame Of Hope go out of your life. With Hope, no matter how bad things look and are...Peace, Faith and Love can Shine Brightly in our lives.
Once you choose hope, anything’s possible.

It’s our final stretch of the year so let’s continue to support each other as we sprint to the end of the year!

Outstanding Contribution Award (OCA) Nomination Exercise 2022
By: Chor Kheng
Relevant Levels: (All Staff)
Submission Deadline: Friday, 21 October 2022.
Information Details:
Dear colleagues,
It is time to nominate individuals and teams that are deserving of the Outstanding Contribution Award (OCA).
The Outstanding Contribution Award (OCA) is an annual exercise to commend and reward individual staff and teams who demonstrate excellence in their work. The OCA aims to promote recognition, respect and appreciation of the staff and promote quality teaching, work processes and enhance staff professionalism.
Who are eligible for the OCA?
Permanent and contract staff in mainstream schools and MOE Kindergartens.
Supplementary manpower pool in mainstream schools [Contract Adjunct Teachers (CAJTs), Adjunct Executive and Administrative Staff (EAS), and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) associates/managers].
Who are not eligible for the OCA?
Flexi-Adjunct Teachers are not considered as part of the teacher quota (TQ) of the school. Besides Flexi-Adjunct Teachers, relief teachers and temporary staff hired directly by the school are also not eligible for the OCA.
There are 2 categories of the award:
1) Individual Award
2) Team Award
Each individual award is between $500 and $1000 which will be credited to the winner’s bank account in January 2023. The amount for the team award depends on the number of people who are awarded. That being said, the amount is not to exceed $500 for each person.
The school has a policy whereby OCA Individual Award winners are not eligible for the OCA Award the following year to provide opportunities for other staff to win the award. They will be eligible for the OCA Award the year after the following year e.g. Teacher A who wins the OCA Individual Award in 2021 is not eligible for the OCA Individual Award in 2022 but is eligible for the OCA Individual Award in 2022.
Although 2021 OCA Award winners will not be eligible for the OCA Award this year, do feel free to nominate them if you would like to recognise them for their outstanding contribution this year.
