"Love your job. Love your boys. Teaching is not a profession. It's a vocation. You got to go that extra mile." ~ Donald Magness, Stephenian Teacher

Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your hard work running the PSLE orals, GEP test, WA and prelims this week. In the midst of all this tiredness, I'm sure you would have heard the good news about the pay review for the education service, and I'm sure we are all looking forward to it. I'm sure it is a welcome recognition of the contribution of teachers in Singapore society, and some might say it does not go far enough to address the struggles of the profession. Nonetheless, let us continue to be motivated by our mission to teach minds, touch hearts and transform lives. Here's a short story for our reflection this week:

A Quaker had this sign put on a vacant piece of land next to his home: “THIS LAND WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE WHO IS TRULY SATISFIED.”

A wealthy farmer who was riding by, stopped to read the sign and said to himself, “Since our friend the Quaker is so ready to part with this plot, I might as well claim it before someone else does. I am a rich man and have all I need, so I certainly qualify.”

With that, he went up to the door and explained what he was there for. “And art thou truly satisfied?” the Quaker asked.

“I am, indeed, for I have everything I need.”

“Friend,” said the Quaker, “if thou art satisfied, what dost thou want the land for?”

Have a great week ahead!

Keep Believing and Serving!

Our Personal T&L Survey Indices

By: VP

Relevant Levels: All Teachers

Date of Event/Programme/Item: -

Information Details:

Dear everyone,

We will be putting the personal T&L Survey Index sheets in our respective pigeon holes as promised. It has taken us a while and we hope each of us will find them useful.

The data collated presents a snapshot of our respective key strengths and challenges, from our students' perspective. As data numbers alone tell only half the story, we need to connect that to class and subject profiles / contexts, and and our respective approaches and pedagogy. We then will have a 360 understanding of what makes our students tick.

Let's appreciate and contribute our strengths as well as further improve in our challenge areas. Also feel free to approach our buddies, mentors, MMs/TLs or P/VPs if we want to discuss our data with someone; it shall always be in the spirit of personal growth. Afterall, one might not be good in everything but everyone is good in something. Let's keep learning from and sharing with each other - together, we are stronger!

As Teachers' Day and our 65th Anniversary Celebrations come around in a fortnight's time, may this data provide each of us with that additional reflective perspective and sustenance inputs. Let us continue to hone our craft in connecting with and inspiring our children, that every life is touched.
