Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

As we start week 4, the boys start to settle into school, and we should begin to see the boys testing boundaries and losing self-regulation.

Here are 4 F phrases that can help us as we invest time in being vigilant and continue to reinforce and train the boys in the routines and expectations:

- Firm expectations

- Fair judgement

- Flexible consequence

- Friendly tone

As we reflect on the weekly quote, let's wake up everyday, and amidst our challenges and tiredness, choose to be grateful and keep a spirit of joy inside of us.

"Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine tasks into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings."

– William Arthur Ward

Peer Support Leaders: Post Staff PD

By:  PSR Team (Haslindah and Shahidah)

Relevant Levels:  All

Date and Time of Event:  NIL

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

Here are the slides that were shared during the Staff PD on 17 Jan. We have included some of your suggestions (Page 26) on how we can better engage the PSLs in our classrooms. Thank you for sharing your ideas!

From the Sociogram Project conducted in 2023, you can find the names of potential PSLs and the possible isolates (ie. students who have no or a small number of friends) in your class. You can provide a "buddy" to these students to befriend them.

Recap on Key Duties of PSLs:

[1] Be a Buddy

[2] Lead in monthly Birthday Celebrations

[3] Be an upstander (for P3-P6)

Thank you

CNY Decoration

By: CNY Celebration Committee

Relevant Levels:  All Staff and Students

Date and Time of Event: Term 1 Week 4 onwards

Information Details:

Dear Colleagues,

Chinese New Year is approaching and as part of the CNY Celebration, we would like to encourage everyone to take part in sprucing up your classrooms and workstations.

2024 is the Year of the Dragon, you may like to use this as your theme for decoration. Attached is a short presentation (less than 5min) for FTs and Co-FTs to share with your students and urge them to unleash their creativity. It is not a competition, and although participation is not compulsory, it will be warming for the whole Stephenian family to build and immerse in the festive mood together. Good works will be captured and shared with the school during the celebration concert on CNY Eve.

We look forward to a vibrant school during this season and be with you for a good 龙 🐉 (Lóng) time!

EL Book Swap 2024

By:  EL Department

Relevant Levels:  P1 - 6

Date and Time of Event:  26 February - 1 March (Collection of Books); 5 - 8 February 2024 (Book Swap)

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

We will be holding a Book Swap on 5 - 8 February 2024 in the school library.

Students may take this opportunity to bring storybooks which they no longer want to read and exchange them for other storybooks.

We will track the number of picture books, chapter books, and nonfiction books brought in by each pupil. Pupils will be given a coupon according to the number of the books collected. The maximum number of books a student may bring in is 3.

Books will only be accepted under the following guidelines:

The school reserves the right to reject any books which are deemed unsuitable.

All books may be dropped off at the canteen between 5 and 8 February 2024 during the respective recesses in exchange for coupons. Pupils may then use these coupons to redeem storybooks during the Book Swap from 26 February to 1 March 2024 in the library during the respective recesses.

Pupils may pen a short note on a post-it and stick it on the first page of the book. The note should encourage the recipient of the book to enjoy the book and promote reading.

To make this Book Swap a success, we seek your co-operation to remind your pupils to bring their books by 8 February 2024.

FTs, we seek your help to go through the attached slides during your FTGP session in Week 5 (29 January 2024).

Thank you for your support in raising readers who care for the environment.
