Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

We're already in the middle of term 1, and I hope that we have started to see the boys settle into the routines that we have established. Don't be disheartened if they have not yet settled down. Some just take a little longer. Keep teaching, rehearsing and reinforcing and in the words of Harry Wong:

The Three Steps to Teaching a Procedure

Teach  - Tell, state, explain, model, and demonstrate the procedure.

Rehearse -  Rehearse, practice, and execute the procedure under your supervision.

Reinforce -  Reteach, rehearse, practice, and praise to reinforce the classroom procedure until it becomes a student habit or routine. (Instead of praising a student, praise the deed and encourage the student to repeat the action.)

I was reflecting on the weekly quote this week and came across this:

A smile costs nothing, but gives much.

It enriches those who receive,

without making poorer those who give.

It takes a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it,

and none is so poor, that he cannot be made rich by it.

A smile creates happiness in the home,

fosters good will in business,

and is the countersign of friendship.

It brings rest to the weary,

cheer to the discouraged,

sunshine to the sad,

and it is nature’s best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,

for it is something that is of no value to anyone,

until it is given away.

Some people are too tired to give you a smile;

Give them one of yours,

as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

So when we see each other this week, let's give each other a smile. And I leave you with our quote for the week from De La Salle:

Always show cheerfulness in your face.

~ St John Baptist de La Salle

I believe in you.
