Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for supporting the afternoon oral exams last week. It is only with your help and support that we can get big, whole-school things done, and I appreciate your putting in time and effort.

This week, two KPs, Mei Ling and Mary, from our cluster schools, will be attached to us on Monday for learning and exposure. A cross-level head, Deepa, will also be attached to us for two weeks as part of her cross-level exposure. Do welcome and forge networks with them. We may walk through some classes in the morning so they can get a sense of the school. Can I also clarify with everyone that, in general, if I step in from the backdoor of the class or stand outside the class, I'm trying not to interrupt the boys to stand up and greet us, so please go ahead and carry on your activities. If I need to address the class, I will step in from the front, then please go ahead and call their attention.

Please take note of the lockdown drill this week. Lessons from 9.20 to about 10.45 will be disrupted, so do plan around it.

I am quite heartened to see more boys taking the mindfulness practice seriously, and I attribute it to your positive role-modelling. So please keep encouraging/leading the mindfulness breathing at the start of the day, and do start your lessons and CCAs by asking the prayer leaders to lead in remembering the Presence of God and maintain silence for 15-20 seconds. Hopefully, with the practice of mindfulness and silence, our boys can come to experience God's inspiration to act in a more self-regulated and disciplined manner.

Follow the inspirations that come to you from God.

Clothing Recycling Programme

By:  Eco-Green x VIA Committees

Relevant Levels:  P1 to P6

Date and Time of Event:  29 July - 05 August 2024

Information Details:

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your active contribution in our first collection for the Clothing Recycling Programme earlier this year. We are pleased to inform you that we collected a total of 693 kg of clothing for that first collection.

We will be having a second collection next week, from 29 July to 5 August. As we celebrate 50 years of Total Defence this upcoming National Day, we are reminded of the vital role each of us plays in ensuring the sustainability and survival of Singapore. For each of us, the small part we can contribute to could be in our continued commitment to recycling and protecting our collective future.

Accepting Clothes in Any Condition: We encourage everyone to donate clothes in any condition. Whether gently used or in need of repair, every item will be put to good use.

Impactful Sorting Process: Our partner company will collect and sort the donated clothes. Wearable items will be sent to NGOs in regions like South America and Africa to benefit communities in need. Damaged cotton clothing will be repurposed into industrial cleaning cloth, and unusable fabric will contribute to waste-to-energy production. This ensures that no fabric ends up in landfills and supports the concept of a circular economy, where resources are reused and repurposed.

We encourage your participation in this programme to promote sustainability and instil important values in our Stephenians. Let's all contribute to a sustainable Singapore as part of our commitment to Total Defence and our collective future!

Thank you.
