Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your swift action in preparing the boys for the evacuation exercise last week. This week, we look forward to the CNY break and festivities. It is a timely mid-term break so do enjoy yourselves thoroughly and enjoy every moment as we ponder the quote for the week:

The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and

to thank God for what he is sending us every day in His goodness.

- St Gianna Beretta Molla

Class Committee Role Assignment

By: CCE-Student Leadership Development (Elias)

Relevant Levels: P1-P6

Date and Time of Event: T1W6, Mon - T1W7, Fri

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

These are the steps to select your class committee student leaders:

Do take note of the requirements of some peer leaders especially the Prayer Peer Leaders whom the students need to be Catholics (you may check on school cockpit with regards to their religion). Should there be students who expressed interest in being a prayer peer leader but are not Catholics, they need to be at least Christians and form teachers must gain parents' consent in allowing their son to pray according to the Catholic prayers.

You may also read the "instructions" tab for more information.

Feel free to approach Elias for more information, clarification and/or suggestion.

Thank you!

Sharpening Our Saw - Heart of the Matter Podcast: Singapore students rank top in math and science, but how useful is this in a changing world?

By:  VP

Relevant Levels:

Date and Time of Event:

Information Details:

Dear everyone,

This is a very thought-provoking podcast - presenting, in an informal way, what is akin to a discussion of the state, considerations and priorities of education in SG today.

The panel includes DGE (MOE), NIE Prof (Academia) and Parent (Parent), so it does allow for a somewhat robust overview.  (What's absent is the Student representative.)

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/podcasts/pisa-ranking-moe-schools-heart-matter-podcast-4088071

From the site:

Out of 81 countries, 15-year-olds in Singapore topped the Pisa table in reading, math and science. But how important are these metrics in a world where social and creative skills have become critical and artificial intelligence is taking centre stage?

Steven Chia gets answers from Liew Wei Li, director-general of education at the Ministry of Education, associate professor Jason Tan from the National Institute of Education, and parent of two and lecturer, Ian Tan.

Do enjoy the podcast and intellectual stimulation - what does each of us and as a fraternity deem important for the future of our children and nation.

A further thought - Singaporeans may not fully realise that CCAs in schools do intentionally play the vital role of developing the lifeskills; in fact in the 2015 PISA when Collaborative Problem Solving was introduced as a category, Singapore students 'topped' the league, and in no small part due to our CCA/VIA & IBL PW ALP LLP etc (beyond what's already in our academic subjects) too.

Attaching here too the 2015 PISA Collaborative Problem Solving results report (PDF), for your reading joy.  There are interesting aspects within the report about country differences, boys versus girls dispositions etc.

Enjoy and cheers!
