In 2024, King Abdulaziz University continued to demonstrate clear growth in its innovation ecosystem, with a strong focus on enhancing the quality of patents and directing innovations toward solutions with tangible societal and economic impact. Although the number of granted patents remained stable at 10 patents, the year 2024 was marked by notable advancements in patent development and a series of exceptional achievements at the global and national levels.
The university recorded a significant rise in patent applications, improved the technical and scientific quality of patent files through strengthened pre-submission review processes, and secured new patents in national priority fields such as medical technologies, artificial intelligence, energy, and sustainability. Innovation pathways were further strengthened through incubators and accelerators, supporting the transformation of ideas into commercially viable products and increasing the participation of students and interdisciplinary teams in innovation activities.
Alongside these advancements in patents, King Abdulaziz University achieved remarkable global recognition in 2024. The university earned outstanding results at iENA 2024 in Germany, where students secured a wide range of international medals, and at iCAN 2024 in Canada, where the innovative “Faseela” project won major awards, including the Gold Medal and a special WIIPA recognition. These accomplishments demonstrate the university’s strong presence in international innovation arenas.
Nationally, the university achieved advanced placements in the Innovation in Military Industries Award, participated in impactful programs such as the SABIC Plastic Redesign Challenge, and showcased innovative student projects across prominent events and exhibitions. Together, these achievements highlight the university’s expanding contribution to applied innovation and its ongoing alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, reinforcing its leadership in fostering a vibrant and impactful innovation environment.

King Abdulaziz University continued to excel in the fields of research, development, and innovation, achieving a distinguished presence in local and international competitions throughout 2024.
On 2024,The university achieved top positions in the Innovation in Military Industries Award, with research teams from the Colleges of Engineering and Computing & Information Technology participating among 23 winning innovations nationwide, reaffirming its role in supporting industrial innovation and enhancing national technological security
On October 24, 2024, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship organized the closing ceremony of the “Redesigning Plastic: Young Innovators for a Changing Future” competition, in collaboration with SABIC, the Oil Sustainability Program (OSP), and the Scientific Endowment.
The competition aimed to empower the next generation of leaders and encourage innovative sustainable practices to address the challenges of plastic waste, covering areas such as recycling, reuse, and design
