11.4: Sustainable practices
Universities acquire a major share of the commuting volume within their communities and societies, due to the huge number of students, employees and other stakeholders who access universities on daily basis. Hence, following and executing sustainable practices by universities will positively impact the community sustainability and raise the public awareness among all community stakeholders regarding the importance and benefits of sustainable commuting.
To enhance sustainable practices, KAU is pouring efforts to:
Provide affordable housing to students and employees (faculty and staff), for the sake of reducing commuting, while collaborating with governmental, private, and NGOs sectors, to conduct public awareness and promotional campaigns related to sustainable commuting.
Promote bus shuttles, car pooling and common transportation, in addition to implementing pedestrian schemes on campus to promote non-motorized commuting.
Enhance the sustainability of green fields, by building on brownfields, using sustainable building standards.
Establish Local collaborations for the sake of availing accommodation for residents.
