The Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, are a global call to action to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The seventeen goals are based on the successes achieved in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (2000-2015). It also includes new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, the promotion of innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities.
The goals are interdependent - often the key to success in achieving one goal is to address issues closely related to other goals. The goals of sustainable development require working in a spirit of partnership and pragmatically so that today we can make the right choices to improve life, in a sustainable way, for future generations.
It provides clear guidelines and targets for all countries to adopt according to their priorities, taking into account the environmental challenges that the entire world faces.
The Sustainable Development Goals represent a comprehensive agenda. It addresses the root causes of poverty and unites us together to create positive change for both people and the planet.
King Abdulaziz University has officially incorporated sustainability into its strategy and established educational, research, and community units and initiatives aimed at integrating the concepts of the Sustainable Development Goals into programs and activities, through: the Sustainable Development Unit, training programs (such as the Skill License/Program for Sustainable Development), conferences and workshops, specialized research centers, and local and international partnerships.
KAU is highly committed to meaningful education around the SDGs across the university, relevant and applicable to all students.
