11.4.9: Building on Brownfield Sites

KAU looks after its green-fields' sustainability through leveraging its brownfield sites for building and development purposes.

In this regard, KAU established a construction policy for the renovation of existing facilities and new buildings with a priority given to reusing brown fields instead of consuming further open areas that should be utilized to increase the green area in the university. The purpose of this policy is the intelligent design of buildings that implement renewable energy, natural ventilation and lighting, and green building elements to increase energy efficiency in the university buildings.
