KAU is continuously working on enhancing the university environment within its shift towards a Green University. And as part of its social responsibility, KAU has been taking several actions to promote sustainable commuting through awareness campaigns and collaborations with the local authorities and NGOs.
Hence, KAU has established several units/teams, which coordinate with the student affairs, to execute the measures and actions that would promote commuting sustainability, to everyone, and reduce factors that would negatively affect commuting sustainability, like:
Provision of free shuttle buses and shared transport schemes.
Provision of bicycle parking & storage facilities, provision of cycle tracks.
Encouraging car pool and ride sharing programmes.
Introducing new environment friendly means of transportation like the Electric Scooters and the Golf Cars.
The student transportation comes as a confirmation of the interest and care that the university attaches to its students, to transfer them among classrooms, colleges, housing complexes and training centers and transport students of extra-curricular activities inside and outside the city of Jeddah.
Students' Transportation Goals
Eliminating the sense of social disparity among students.
Developing a sense of good values and collective spirit.
Achieving an appropriate degree of comfort and reassurance for the student and the guardian.
Familiarizing students with self-reliance, discipline in attendance and departure times.
Reducing congestion, frequent traffic accidents, and energy consumption.
Provisioning of lost working hours by students due to the lack of a suitable position.
Providing financial support, as the student transportation is free for all university students.

King Abdulaziz University has introduced, since 2012, a new service to help students move between buildings and various sections within the university wall. The service is provided at a nominal price of (2 riyals) only where the Department of Student Affairs agreed with a company to do this service for all students without exception, while it was previously provided to faculty members only.
