Saudi Society for Environmental Sciences (SSES)
Under the patronage of HRH Prince Turki Ibn Nassir Ibn AbdulAziz, Chairman of Meteorology and Environment, and with the presence of HE Prof. Osama Ibn Sadiq Tayyib, Chancellor of King Abdulaziz University, the establishment of the Saudi Environmental Association was officially announced at the Celebration Hall and Conference Center at King AbdulAziz University.
The Association was established as per the resolution of King Abdulzziz University's Council in order to level up the environmental sciences and develop the scientific thought in fields of environment. This Association came as well to spread up the environmental awareness and facilitate the means of communication and experience exchange among the concerned experts. That is beside its potential role in providing any theoretical and empirical scientific consultancies in this important field of environment to the many of fields of development in Saudi Arabia.
KAU participated for the first time in the 22nd session, and the College of Environmental Sciences at King Abdulaziz University won second place with a topic on industrial livestock farming and its impact on climate.
In the 23rd session, King Abdulaziz University received an invitation from the Emirates Environmental Group (click here) Two groups of university students won first place in the topics of renewable energy and microorganisms, while a third group won second place in the topic of environmental policies. The innovation team led by student Lana Ziad Kazem and under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Fleet, a researcher at the Center of Excellence for Research in Environmental Studies, won first place with the title of "Most popular Team" in the scientific competition for university students to reduce environmental pollution held at Tongji University in China on Monday 6/5/2023.(click here)
The Community Service Unit at the College of Environmental Sciences visits @Soqia Almaa Association, discussing avenues for cooperation between the college and the association to promote water conservation awareness. (click here)
The Cultural and Community Service Committee in the Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Alumni Committee of the College, organized a workshop titled "Afforestation in Arid Areas" at the Huda Al-Sham Research Station. (click here)
Recognition of the Community Service Unit – Faculty of Environmental Sciences
The Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences received an award from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in recognition of the efforts of the college’s Community Service Unit. The acknowledgment highlights the unit’s collaboration with the Ministry’s Jeddah branch in delivering environmental volunteer programs and initiatives throughout 2023. This recognition was presented as part of the Saudi and International Volunteer Day, underscoring the university’s commitment to environmental volunteerism and community engagement.(click here)

Scientific Seminar on Dust Storms and Their Environmental Impact
The Center of Excellence in Environmental Studies, in collaboration with the Saudi Society for Environmental Sciences and the Saudi Meteorological Society, organized a scientific seminar addressing the issue of dust storms and their environmental and economic impacts. The event featured experts from relevant fields and aimed to raise awareness of climate and environmental challenges.(click here)
Environmental Outreach and Volunteering Programs in Collaboration with NGOs and Community Teams
“In Your Hands… Save Your Environment” Campaign
– A community service initiative by the College’s Community Service Unit, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) in Makkah Region, the Jeddah Municipality, and field-contribution from the Deiratna Camp, Roaa AlMamlakah Volunteers team, Branco Jeddah team and the Barq for Rescue team, to remove waste from the eastern recreational area of Dhahaban in Jeddah.
– Purpose: spread environmental awareness, educate the target group about protecting the environment, eliminate visual pollution and waste from the wild recreation area, and activate community-university-government partnerships.
– Achievements: removal of more than 5 tons of waste, strengthening the culture of environmental volunteering, raising awareness of environmental responsibility in wild areas, and highlighting the university’s leadership role in community service and environmental protection. (click here)
Community Collaboration to Enhance Environmental Awareness in Jeddah
The “Environmental Friends Caravans” campaign recorded remarkable community participation across Jeddah, reflecting strong environmental awareness and responsibility among residents. As the campaign concluded its activities, it marked a new success story in promoting sustainability, community engagement, and volunteerism. This initiative aligns with the indicator related to environmental education in collaboration with non-profit and volunteer organizations. (click here)
Al Raya Industrial Specializations Company, represented by the company owner and principal researcher, visited the Center of Environmental Excellence at the university, where the company presented a presentation on developing a material to accelerate agricultural plants. The possibility of cooperation between the center and Al Raya Company was reviewed through conducting research and consulting studies and conducting laboratory tests. The meeting was attended by the center director, the administrative director, and several researchers. A tour of the center's laboratories was also conducted. (click here)
