King Abdulaziz University derives its orientation in sustainable food production from aquatic ecosystems from national governmental policies and strategies, particularly those supervised by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA).
The University works to align its research and educational projects with these policies to support sustainable aquaculture and enhance national food security, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water supervises all fishing and diving activities, and explains its powers for that purpose, explaining the provisions for obtaining fishing and diving licenses, local fishing committees and their powers, and the provisions regulating the protection of living aquatic resources.
