King Abdulaziz University places great emphasis on environmental preservation and sustainability through innovative initiatives that aim to reduce pollution and minimize plastic waste. One of its most notable efforts is the “Don’t Throw It, Endow It” initiative, launched by the Scientific Endowment in 2011. It is considered a pioneering national model in waste management and recycling.
The initiative aims to reduce plastic, paper, and electronic waste through sustainable collection and recycling processes, in collaboration with public and private entities. It also conducts awareness and field campaigns to promote environmental consciousness within and beyond the university. King Abdulaziz University, through its Scientific Endowment (Waqf), implements a series of field campaigns aimed at promoting responsible waste management and reducing plastic pollution. These initiatives focus on raising awareness about waste sorting, encouraging recycling, and minimizing single-use plastics across various locations in Jeddah.
These campaigns play a significant role in addressing land-based plastic waste, which is one of the primary contributors to marine pollution. Through community awareness activities and the provision of collection and recycling services, the University helps reduce the amount of plastic that may reach coastal and marine ecosystems.
King Abdulaziz University strengthens its efforts to reduce plastic pollution through collaborations with governmental, private, and non-profit organizations. These partnerships support awareness campaigns, improve waste sorting and recycling processes, and help reduce plastic waste that could reach coastal and marine environments.
