King Abdulaziz University ranked 50th globally for the year 2025 in SDG16
With their high reachability to generations, and major role in creating and disseminating knowledge, universities have been the major drivers of local, regional and global innovation, economic and social development. As such, universities have a critical role in the marketing and achievement of the SDGs while also benefitting from them.
Sustainability Development Goal 16, Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions, seeks to ensure the needed support for strong institutions by universities, as well as promoting Justice and Peace.
On the country level, KAU, as a higher education institution, occupies a unique position within the Saudi society and is aware of the responsibilities towards the strong institutions in addition to empowering peace and justice.
KAU has tackled the different aspects related to SDG16 which are available and accessible to all students, staff, visitors and faculty. Actions & procedures that KAU is striving on implementing to deploy SDG16’s goals within KAU are:
Developing policies, procedures and plans to ensure the campus is safe for all staff, students and visitors.
Ensuring that procurement policies and procedures clearly indicate an intolerance to working with any companies known or found to be involved in exploitation of people.
Ensuring that the policies and culture of the institution clearly indicate that bribery, corruption, violence, crime and acts of terrorism is unacceptable.
Organizing cross-cultural activities on campus.
Ensuring that all staff and students have access to information about their rights & obligations.
Involving staff, students and key stakeholders in university governance decisions.
Data Publishing
KAU publishes and reports all events and data that are related to SDG16, mainly online on the SDG related page, or as part of its strategy, as well as other dedicated reports, to monitor and control the sustainability goals’ improvement within KAU and as part of KAU’s alignment with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

King Abdulaziz University Efforts to Support Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG16)
1. University Governance and Student Participation
Organizing student elections representing each college in the Student Advisory Committee, enhancing student participation in decision-making processes.
Establishing a Students’ Activities Management Board led by experienced faculty members to manage and support various student activities.
Issuing the University Student Rights Policy and the Students’ Academic Rights Document to clarify students’ rights and obligations and to support both academic and non-academic freedom.
2. Specialized Centers and Units
Establishing centers and units that monitor the implementation of SDG16 to ensure alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Developing policies and procedures for engaging with local stakeholders outside the university, such as the Graduates and Skills Development Center, to identify needs and contribute to their fulfillment.
3. Integrity, Anti-Corruption, and Crime Prevention
Adopting principles and commitments to combat organized crime, corruption, and bribery, in line with government regulations, including:

4. Academic Freedom and Professional Ethics
Publishing the Professional Ethics Charter, which emphasizes:
Respecting researchers’ freedom of opinion and methodology within the framework of state policies and Islamic teachings.
Encouraging researchers to express their scientific personality on a sound scientific basis.
Supporting the freedom to conduct presentations, workshops, and other educational activities related to their research fields.

16.1: Publications in Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions
KAU has 45 scholarly publications on Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions, 15.60% of which are in the top 10 journals.
16.2: University Governance Measures
King Abdulaziz University has been undertaking the necessary measures to support Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Below is a list of measures in this regard with their details.
16.3: Working with Government
Macro sovereignty is the backbone of organizations, including universities. And planning is an effective tool that guides organizations towards achieving their goals carefully, comprehensively and sustainably. Education is considered the most important life structure in which all age groups of society are established and grow, so that the education of the people of the country is continuous throughout life. University education touches the youth stage, which is the essential age of peoples.
KAU will not only achieve the leadership of the national university education towards its goals, but also always participate in the nation, its willingness and orientation towards building the future of the Kingdom.

Around 16.02% of KAU's graduates are graduates from Law and Enforcement related studies.
