Sustainable development is the development that fulfills the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations. Therefore, sustainable development aims to improve the living conditions of people without excessive consumption of natural resources or polluting the environment in a way that exceeds its ability recover. There are 3 main pillars of sustainable development, which are economic growth, social development, and conservation of natural resources. Moreover, the concept of sustainable development includes moral values represented in equality between the same generation, and between various generations, which requires preparing future development plans that push current development projects forward but with full awareness of their long-term impacts on the environment and people. Consequently, sustainable development is a conscious, goal-oriented process with a long-term strategy, aware of and committed to societal goals. It has the capacity to effectively use the society resources in a manner that maintains the integration and compatibility between environment and development; for better living standards and higher quality of life.
For this reason, KAU not only promotes internal education about the SDGs for its students and faculty, but also in the wider community, through various channels like, hosting educational lectures and conducting outreach activities that touch on the SDGs' highlights, concerns, and needed actions.
