7.2.5: Energy Wastage Identification
KAU continuously assesses the energy consumption rates and the sources of consumption, to identify areas of energy waste, and provide the needed solutions.
KAU continuously assesses the energy consumption rates and the sources of consumption, to identify areas of energy waste, and provide the needed solutions.
KAU has the Sustainability Committee whose most important goal is to save energy in general in all the buildings and facilities of the university and its branches. To do so, the committee continuously identifies the Energy Wastage Channels and works on providing alternative and energy-saving solutions.
In coordination with a group of colleges and departments, the Committee submitted and started implementing the following recommendations that saves energy and are related to the timings of turning off/on air conditioning and lighting outside official working hours as follows:
Turning off the air conditioning, suction fans and interior lighting daily, except for Friday, from 10 pm until 6 am.
Turn off the outdoor lighting daily from 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening.
A number of 3 temporary lights were provided for the green lighting of the Rector’s Square, and it was timed to operate from 7 am to 12 am.
Shut off all screens from 6 pm until 6 am.
In cooperation with the Department of the Scientific Endowment, paper recycling boxes were provided in the General Administration of Utilities.
Change the mosque lighting to LED.
Changing the entire lighting of the fourth floor of the senior management building to LED.
During the festive holidays, the water temperatures were raised from the cooling station to the university buildings to ease the situation on the station, which led to a decrease in energy consumption and energy consumption was reduced by an amount.
The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center announced the start of registration for the "Energy Conservation in Government Buildings" courses directed to specialists from government agencies, organized by the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center "Kafaa" in cooperation with the General Corporation for Technical Training for employees of government agencies, with a remote training system via the "microsoft team" platform.
These courses aim to raise the efficiency of specialists in government agencies (like KAU) to commit to periodic and preventive maintenance that contributes to raising the efficiency of energy consumption in government buildings.
According to the agreement concluded earlier between the Energy Efficiency Center and the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, these courses are provided free of charge to trainees working in relevant government administrative units such as maintenance departments, projects, support services and public services.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency and within the framework of its interest in implementing the mechanism of rationalizing electricity consumption in the government sector, is working on 3 tracks.
The first is the technical track, which aims to clarify the standards necessary to raise the efficiency of electricity consumption in all existing government facilities and establishments and the mechanisms for their application.
The second track is concerned with training programs that contribute to raising the capabilities and qualification of the competent human cadres in government agencies to carry out the tasks of rationalizing and raising energy efficiency in their regions.
The third track is to spread awareness about the importance of rationalizing energy consumption and raising its efficiency through sustainable awareness programs and activities for the employees of these entities.
