King Abdulaziz University wins international awards for the “Faseelah” innovation project
Students from King Abdulaziz University achieved remarkable international recognition after winning multiple global awards for their innovative project “Faseelah” during their participation in an international innovation and invention competition held in Canada.
The Faseelah project, which uses artificial intelligence and smart technology to provide creative environmental solutions, received gold and special awards for its innovative design, technical excellence, and real-world impact.
This achievement highlights the university’s commitment to supporting creativity, fostering technological innovation, and empowering its students to develop solutions that contribute to sustainability and global advancement.
KAU efforts towards SDG9 are related to the different aspects of this goal as can be seen below:
Testing and piloting innovative solutions to improving operations on campus.
Committing to building sustainable and resilient infrastructure that supports wellbeing and minimizes environmental impact.
Ensuring retrofits of existing buildings increase resource efficiency and adopt clean and environmentally sound technologies.
Committing to sustainable and reliable Information and communications technology processes and services.
This focuses on research that is relevant to Sustainability Development Goal number 9, i.e. industry, innovation and infrastructure, measuring the volume of research produced by KAU, where it reflects the ability of KAU to generate new research income.
KAU has been working on:
Developing and ensuring quality, reliable, inclusive, sustainable and resilient infrastructure. This will involve innovation and the creation of new and more sustainable industries, spurred by investments in research and development.
In 2024, King Abdulaziz University recorded 10 granted patents, alongside a noticeable increase in new patent filings and improved technical quality of submissions. The patents covered key national priority areas such as medical technologies, energy, artificial intelligence, and water treatment. These results reflect the university’s continued progress in strengthening its innovation ecosystem in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
The number of Spin-offs of a university is a very important measure of the university’s innovation that led to the creation of new companies directly from the university's research. KAU has 251 Spin-Offs, a huge figure that reflects the high level of innovation contribution, KAU is adding to its community.
This reflects the ability of KAU to generate new research income. It measures the amount of research income an institution earns from industry, scaled against the number of academic staff it employs.
