King Abdulaziz University has multiple centers of research excellence that support the Kingdom’s Vision2030, KAU’s strategic direction and sustainable development goals SDG’s. These centers provide a niche in which faculty members, full time researchers, highly cited visiting scholars, administrative, laboratory technician, undergraduate and postgraduate students work together to develop innovative research projects and solutions in the area climate and environmental sustainability. Hence, KAU has been executing a lot of activities, like Local Education Programmes, Collaborations with the Government and NGOs, as well as various measures regarding Disasters.
13.3.1: Local Education Programmes on Climate
KAU, and through the mentioned centers and others, has been conducting local education programmes about climate change, and community awareness campaigns.
13.3.2: A Shared Climate Action Plan
KAU's Climate Change-related centers are in continuous cooperation and coordination with the governmental entities and local community groups for the sake of supporting the creation of a well defined Climate Action Plan.
13.3.3: Co-operative Planning for Climate Change Disasters
KAU's Emergency and Disaster Center, is an Active member in the Jeddah civil defense committee for rain and flood season and also as an active member in the Makkah region civil defense Committee during national peak times like pilgrimage season and the holy month of Ramadan.
13.3.4: Inform and Support Government
KAU continuously provides support and information feeds to the government through the research and activities that its concerned center conduct. The main involved centers for climate action are the Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research and the Center of Excellence in Environmental Studies.
13.3.5: Environmental Education Collaboration with NGOs
KAU organizes, sponsors, and participates in environmental education events and activities with the local government and other National NGOs to tackle issues related to Climate Change and Climate Actions.
