The Vice Deanship's Vision is to provide world-class facilitation services and leadership in serving the community of students with special needs.
The Agency was established in March 2017. The agency for people with special needs is the first of its kind in all universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Its Objectives
Its goal is to promote the full and independent participation of people with special needs in post-secondary education, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors by:
Enabling people with special needs to take their appropriate place in society in accordance with international agreements.
Providing an environment that takes into account individual differences for all individuals.
Taking into account the compatibility of the university environment with the International Convention for Persons with Disabilities.
Providing the necessary support to acquire the necessary academic skills for students with special needs.
Optimizing the use of assistive technology to fulfill tasks related to people with disabilities.
Providing academic, psychological and social counseling for people with disabilities.
King Abdulaziz University provides various types of services to people with disabilities.
Awareness workshop for students and faculties in sign language.
Several translators (Arabic/English) sign language are assigned to deaf students.

Free medical services
A priority reception and appointments treatment of their own, so that they do not need to wait in the regular queues with the rest of the students, but rather, they are provided with priority service, as well as a prompt supply with their medicines.
A specialized dental clinic, in the University Dental Hospital, with special dentists who are specializing in this field.
A training and physical rehabilitation specialists to train students physically to lose weight and raise fitness rates.
Special Representative in the Higher Student Advisory Committee
There is a representative for the students of the Center for Special Needs, within the Higher Student Advisory Committee, that is chaired by the President of the University, who expresses and requests the needed support and facilities of his colleagues from the center.
Braille Sense 2 devices are loaned to blind students free of charge.
The presence of a Braille printer for words, maps, and images at the Agency's Headquarters.
Special Parental Committee
There is a special committee, of students with disabilities' parents, that communicates directly, with the general supervisor of the Center for People with Special Needs, in all matters pertaining to their children's education and the need for receiving any support and guidance.
Assistive technologies for people with special needs
Visually impaired applications: Envision App
Envision translates the visual world into spoken words, helping to live a more independent life every day. By combining the best assistive technologies with artificial intelligence, the Envision app can process an image and extract the information the user is looking for. Texts from any surface can be read accurately and quickly, in more than 60 languages.
Hearing impaired applications: Ava App
The main service provided by the application is the real-time captioning service for any conversation or lecture so that it is mobile, for any student who is deaf or hard of hearing.
The application saves the written text on files that can be shared and sent to various programs and applications and the possibility of working on it and benefiting from it later.
There is a proofreader feature in the written language to review and send back to the student.
The application can be run on the computer using a special wire that connects the mobile device to the computer and the application makes comments for any multimedia that is displayed on the computer.
Also, it is possible to use the feature (Ava Web) and display (captions) directly on the screen, and share the text of lectures with the entire class so that everyone can study better and easier.

Convert spoken speech to writing, text appears within seconds.
Captioner works on your computer. All you need is a microphone or some other audio input source connected to your computer.
It can be used by a faculty member or student with the ability to save comments to a file (Word) for modification and addition to the file.
Special Transportation Services
Buses, that are equipped with guides who are experts in the mobility of students with disabilities, and equipped with special elevators, transport people with visual impairments and other motion disabilities within and outside the university campus.
