1.3: KAU's Anti-Poverty Programmes

Universities need to address poverty of their students and potential students. This requires universities to commit to admitting students from backgrounds where poverty is a factor, and ensuring that these students have the support necessary to complete their studies. Universities should also have a commitment to supporting students experiencing poverty in low or lower-middle income countries across the world.

KAU has been executing Anti-Poverty programmes through collaborations with the government, local and international stakeholders. Scholarships for poor local students or students coming from low-income countries is provided in order to empower sustainable education for all.

1.3.1: Bottom Financial Quintile Admission Target

KAU, as a public university, admits all local students who meet the admission criteria, with a priority to students who fall into the bottom 20% of household income group in the Kingdom.

KAU applies a close follow-up, to guarantee graduation completion for all its students, including those who fall into the bottom 20% of household income group in the Kingdom.

1.3.3: Low-Income Student Support

King Abdulaziz University provides different types of support for its students, like affordable food meals, housing, transportation, and pocket money, for students from low income families to enable them to complete university education with self-esteem.

KAU has many mentoring programmes to support students, who fall into the bottom 20% of household income group in the Kingdom, to, successfully and smoothly, complete their studies.

1.3.5: Low or Lower-Middle Income Countries Student Support

KAU, and in alignment with the Vision 2030 programs, avails multiple support schemes to support the education (on all levels) of poor students from low or lower-middle income countries, through financial aid, scholarships, assistantship, and others.
