Economic growth and employment are important for reaching the economic security that is crucial to the achievement of Sustainability Development Goal number 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, as is equitable access to financial services. To meet this objective, countries, industries and consequently, universities, must protect labor rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment.
Prominent KAU Efforts In light of SDG 8
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) is a unique institution in Saudi society, and it recognizes its responsibility to the national economy and community. KAU has developed a strategic plan with a long-term vision to develop science, technology, and innovation in the Kingdom. This plan aims to sustain its global excellence, local leadership, financial growth, support for research and innovation, and the quality of its educational programs that meet the requirements of the labor market so that its graduates become the most recruited and preferred. This strategic goal is part of KAU's overall strategy and is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes the importance of diversifying the Saudi economy for greater sustainability. Since King Abdulaziz University (KAU) establishment as a public university in 1971, (KAU) has been following the government's labor laws. It also established its own laws and regulations at the time, which are in line with government laws. For example, King Abdulaziz University follows the Saudi labor law in employee affairs, including recruitment, termination, allowances, and vacations. It also follows government laws in student affairs, including admission, registration, study, and examinations. KAU’S laws and regulations include the following:

● Social Security System
● Discipline System
These laws and regulations aim to organize the university's work and ensure the efficient and effective operation of the educational process. Here are some examples of how government laws are applied at King Abdulaziz University:
● The Saudi labor law applies to all university employees, including faculty members, administrators, and workers. ● Government laws apply to all students, including Saudi and non-Saudi students.
● The code of conduct and general ethics issued by the Ministry of Education applies to all university staff.
King Abdulaziz University is constantly working to develop its laws and regulations to keep pace with scientific and technological developments and the needs of society.

The state's general budget for the year 2023 was set at (1.114) trillion SAR , which demonstrates the national interest in meeting the basic needs of citizens, enhance aspirations for achieving economic and social stability, and herald a prosperous future for the country.
The education sector in general, and King Abdulaziz University in particular, enjoys great financial support, which constitutes a catalyst for further educational development of the country and expand the education programs to provide services to the Saudi society.
KAU is leveraging the governmental financial support to heavily invest on its staff and faculty.
KAU provides appropriately positioned and supported scholarship and financial assistance schemes for students in need.
