Welcome to our trimester of studying US History 1 together. The focus will be from the Reconstruction Era to the events of the Great Depression. That is a lot of history in a fairly short amount of time. Hopefully when your trimester is over you will understand what it was like to live as an American in the era where there were so many changes and advances in our country.
MONDAY 11/7--Welcome to class, procedures, True Story of the Three Little Pigs, handout books, outlines of the previous chapters, News in 90 Seconds explained. Start Ch 5 Brainstorm Activity--What would you expect on the Western Frontier if you moved there in the 1800s? (think of all of your senses). Consider the following questions in discussion how you would make a living, how would you co-exist with native people, how might settlers and Native Americas differ in regards to the land? Review timeline on p. 200 with students and ask questions from Timeline Discussion in text.
TUESDAY 11/8--Election Day, News in 90 Seconds, read and do work on Ch 5 Westward Expansion
WEDNESDAY 11/9--News in 90 Seconds, election results, begin notes and lecture on Westward Expansion, Section 1 notes with focus of life and culture on the Western Plains for settles and Native Americans.
THURSDAY 11/10--News in 90 Seconds, election results, show clips on Westward Expansion from Story of US with notes on Section 2. Explain Veteran's Day.
FRIDAY 11/11--Veterans Day
