I love to get to know the interests of those around me, and thought I would start by sharing a little about myself. Both my husband and I are products of the Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC) and are very proud to have our 3 sons also attend some of the same schools we attended. I graduated from Terre Haute North and furthered my education at Indiana University. I received my BS in Secondary Education at IU and then several years later decided that I would like to pursue a degree in School Counseling from Indiana State University. I have been employed by VCSC since 1995 and have worked at Woodrow Wilson, West Vigo High School and Terre Haute North since 2003. I have worked as a special education and social studies teacher, in addition to being a school counselor. For the 2012-13 school year I served as an administrative intern at Terre Haute North as I added principal licensure to my degrees.
Outside of school I can often be found on a soccer field. All 3 of my boys have played soccer and I truly enjoy the sport. I also love to read and hike when opportunities allow especially at National Parks. Our family is known to be crazy about all things Disney and many of our vacations have been spent at various Disney locations. Something else interesting about me is that other than my parents and brother all my family lives in Quebec, Canada. I have had a very diverse culture all around me as I was growing up even though I was born and raised here in Terre Haute. You will also learn that I enjoy movies and music. I especially like learning what the students enjoy while sharing some of my favorites.
On the first day of class I will ask my students to fill out information that will also include the sharing what types of things they enjoy, or unique facts about them. I love to celebrate and recognize their interests to add to our class discussions and work. We can all learn from each other. I love it when I find ways to allow the students to share how government or history has impacted their personal lives and perhaps their future. When students see how their education can connect to their personal lives they become more engaged.
