The first week is in the books and you will be off and running with your grades. We will start the week with smaller tests over Chapter 1 and the Preamble. The next section we will cover will include parts of Chapters 2, 3, and 4. The next chapters will continue giving you the basics in vocabluary and concepts as we prepare to study the 3 branches of American government. Remember to try and watch, listen to, or read the news whenever you get a chance. It will really help you see the concepts we study in government in action every day in our world.
MONDAY 8/18--DDOG, Ch 1 Quiz, 1st Preamble attempt, Assign reading in Chapter 3, Begin going over parts of Chapter 2. Go over website and resources. If time allows watch the news.
TUESDAY 8/19--DDOG, Group discussion/work--Each group will be given a Principle of our Constitution from Section 1 Chapter 3 and they will explain that principle to the class while the students try to guess which principle it is. Continue explaining Chapter 3 and watch news if time allows. Power Point notes and handouts will be given for this chapter to fill in along with lecture. Begin going over Section 2.
WEDNESDAY 8/20--DDOG, Students will continue to go over section 2 with PowerPoint and history lesson. Special focus on pages 80 and 81. Why do we have some of the Amendments that were created will be explained in the discussion. You will need to know specific Amendments for our test. They are mentioned in class and on Power Point for the Chapter. Review information in Ch 3 Section 3 along with Federalism information from Ch 4.
THURSDAY 8/21--DDOG, Ch 2,3,4 Quiz and Terre Haute Activity with film clip and highlights of our community. Group work on what needs to happen for our community to continue to grow and retain people in our city.
FRIDAY 8/22--Begin 9/11 Unit with readings and CNN Remembers film. By studying the events and stories around the event we will have an introduction to the specific roles of government and the responses. DAILY GOVERNMENT journaling due after writing about a current event.
