This week we will focus on political parties. For each section you read in Chapter5 you are to do the political dictionaries and a sort answer question that is provided. I will list those below. We will more than likely test on this chapter on Thursday or Friday.
Remember there is an essay that we are adding to each day and it will be turned in with test. We started it last Friday with the questions of what makes a Democrat or Republican? Ask close friends or family what they are and how they came to that belief. If you are unable to answer this please share why and be honest. We are doing thsi so you will undertsand how and why people get their political beliefs and ideas.
Section 1: What are the functions of the political parties?
Section 2: What characterizes the present political era from 1968 to today?
Section 3: In what ways do minor parties impact elections?
Section 4: What is the purpose of the National Convention?
Monday--read Chapter 5 sections 1 and 2 in class with above information. Go over PowerPoints on what makes a Democrat or Republican? Begin chapter PowerPoint.
Tuesday--Finish information on Democrats and Republicans. Add writing to political narrative and notes. After seeing all the issues do you find yourself drawn to a particular party? Why or why not. Please explain.
Wednesday--Watch parts of speeches from the Republican National Convention (keynote-Chris Christie and Ann Romney). As you are watching add to your political narrative by pointing out things you liked or did not like about the speeches. Discussion based on speeches.
Thursday--go over Section 2 information and begin looking at Sections 3 and 4 with time for reading and political dictionary. Worksheet on 3rd party candidates and impact on elections. Will collect for points.
Friday--Watch Mitt Romney speech (or parts of it) and discuss. Per news commentary that we watched on what he needed to do with his speech, how did he perform? Other thoughts and discussions about the RNC. Go over section 4.
The test for this chapter will now be combined with Ch 6 and Elections due to the extra use of events currently happening with the parties and conventions.
Also on Tuesday we will have a guest speaker discussing life after high school and personal ethics. Have a great Labor Day weekend!!!!
