This week and for the entire trimester we will begin studying the branches of our government. We will start with Congress this week, but before we do that we will take a look at the criminal justice system and concerns that may be happening it. There is a lot of discussion in this election that our system needs to be looked at because we have more prisoners than any other country in the world.
MONDAY 1/18--MLK Holiday, day off from school
TUESDAY 1/19--News, debates highlights from recent Republican and Democratic debates, history of MLK Day being observed, look at the treatment of juveniles in our justice system with the clips from series Lockup. Young Kids, Hard times can also be found on youtube if you miss the days of school. PREWRITE--How should the US treat juveniles who do crimes that horrific enough to be considered into adult courts? Look at the pros and cons of your statement.
WEDNESDAY 1/20--News, finish Lockup video with discussion and essay about what we should be looking at for crimes of juveniles and others in our country.
THURSDAY 1/21--News, Mrs. Clark begins with students on studying Congress, Student worksheet follow along reading Article 1 of the Constitution, Lecture over bicameral
FRIDAY 1/22--News (hand in), begin lecture on House of Representatives and the Senate. Fill out getting to know you sheet on Congress.
