We will be continuing our study of the role of government for our country by looking at the events surrounding the Spetmber 11th attacks. After that we will begin looking at the election process and the role of the citizen in that process. This will cover chapters 5 and 6. As we cover this it is important to remember that I will often use outside resources and discussions that cannot be found in the book. It is impotant that you do your best to be here during the lessons.
MONDAY 3/11--Begin 9-11 Unit for understanding roles of government. CNN Remembers
TUESDAY 3/12-- CNN Remembers and readings about 9-11. Writing assignment due on 3/13 about Sept 11 events. It will be handed out in class on Tuesday.
WEDNESDAY 3/13--September 11 writing asssignment collected. Assign Chapter 5 reading.
Allow time for reading Chapter 5 sections 1 and 3 in class. Have students do a brainstorm in groups on what makes a Democrat or a Republican--make predictions and discuss.
THURSDAY 3/14--PowerPoint on Democrats and Republicans, finish up Chapter 5 discussion. Some highlights from past election.
FRIDAY 3/15--Continued highlights from past elections including debates, etc. Assign Chapter 6 to read--ALL sections! Go over Section 1 with class. CURRENT EVENTS REFLECTION DUE
Of course we will continue to address current events throughout the lessons and week. Be sure to watch or listen to the news when you have the opportunity. Pick up the newspaper and read the headlines. Talk to people around you about what is going on in the world.
