We will finish up our studying of the 9-11 unit with some stories and interviews by those impacted by the events surrounding the attacks. As we take a look at the role of government in situations like this we will begin our journey about learning how those leaders get into the government role. Chapters 5 and 6 will be our election unit where we study voting, political parties, and voter behavior. Many of the lessons and content from this chapter will carry over to the rest of the topics we study through the rest of the trimester.
MONDAY--12/3 Finish up information on 9-11 with stories and power point information on memorials. Reminder that Public Opinion Essay project is due on TUESDAY 12/4. You may turn in today for bonus points!
TUESDAY--12/4 ESSAYS DUE, begin work on Chapter 5 and 6 with Voting and Election Unit. Discuss findings of how public opinions are formed. Assigned reading time and begin discussion of voting. Allow time for reading Chapter 5 sections 1 and 3 in class. Have students do a brainstorm n groups on what makes a Democrat or a Republican--make predictions and discuss.
WEDNESDAY--12/5 PowerPoint on Democrats and Republicans, finish up Chapter 5 discussion. Some highlights from past election.
THURSDAY--12/6 Continued highlights from past elections including debates, etc. Assign Chapter 6 to read--ALL sections! Go over Section 1 with class.
FRIDAY--12/7 More highlights from 2012 election and go over sections 2 and 3. Billboard Activity, how do we get people to vote? Due on Monday.
