Ingredients
4 cups dried pinto beans or 6 cups of cooked beans
One 15-ounce can tomato sauce
1lb Browned Seasoned Hamburger
¼ cup chili powder
¼ cup brown sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons white vinegar
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, diced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Directions
To cook the beans:
1) Sort out any rocks from the beans.
2) Rinse the beans under cold water,
3) Cover in cold water and soak for 48 hours.
4) Drain the beans and place in a stockpot
5) Cover with fresh water by 2 inches.
6) Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer, adding a little more liquid if the level gets too low, until the beans are tender, 3 to 4 hours.
To season the beans:
7) In the stockpot with the beans add the tomato sauce, chili powder, brown sugar, white vinegar, garlic, onions, 1 tablespoon salt and 2 teaspoons pepper. Taste and season with additional salt and pepper if needed.
