Materials
1 ½ total yards of cotton fabric
3 yards of 1-inch grosgrain ribbon
Thread
Directions
1) Iron your fabric.
2) Lay folded fabric out, the long way. Smooth and even-out the edges.
3) Pin the pocket pattern, long side on a single fabric piece.
4) Repeat this a second time, for the other apron piece (possibly a different fabric).
5) Fold all sides of fabric pocket with an ½ inch (use a seam gauge), pin and iron. One side of the pocket (the top of the pocket) needs a double fold of another ½ inch (use a seam gauge). Iron and pin this down.
6) Sew down the top double fold of the pocket.
7) Measure and pin the pockets to each side of the opposite fabric of the apron, with the right side up. Sew down all sides that have a single fold, as close to the edge of the fabric as possible, Remember to start and stop with a backstitch. (Do not sew the top of the pocket with the double fold). Find the middle of the pocket and sew a straight line down the middle to make 2 pockets.
8) Cut the ribbon to the desired length. You need 1 neck ribbon and 2 back ties. (Suggested, 3 ribbons 24”)
9) Neck and waist ribbons need to be pinned and tucked inside the fabric.
10) Pin both apron pieces all around with the right sides together.
11) Double pin a 5-inch opening at the bottom of the apron and double pin at every ribbon to make it secure.
12) Sew with the foot against the edge of the fabric, don't forget to start with a backstitch and end with a backstitch.
13) Check for holes, and fix them if any are found.
14) Trim fabric and corners. Flip right-side out through the 5-inch opening.
15) Iron and re-pin, making sure the seams are tight.
16) Pin the 5-inch opening
16) Pin the 5-inch opening
17) Continue to stitch around the apron, double stitch at each ribbon. Stay close to the edge, don't forget to start and end with a backstitch.
*Check for any threads before handing in. I will not grade a project that has loose threads hanging.
