Stamford women's run in the Yetton Plate, the national competition for first round losers in the Yetton inter-club Trophy, came to an end against Lincoln who beat them on aggregate 82-63 over four rinks - two at home, two away.

At the halfway stage as the scores came through from Lincoln, with the rinks of Glenys Edwards and Christine Ford holding slender leads, Stamford trailed by only three shots overall.

But then the Lincoln rinks piled on the pressure on their slick carpet, and it left Stamford's home quartet to keep the momentum.

However, the visitors proved too strong and although the Stamford's home rink of Christine Barnes, Ann Cullingworth, Margaret Bloxham and Joan Robinson fought back from 8-16 down to force a draw, 18 shots conceded in nine ends midway through the match by Sue Moir's rink, proved conclusive.

In a one sided game against Spalding's John Spencer and John Needham, they built up leads of 7-2 and 11-5 - Needham salvaging third shot with his last bowl when facing eight shots down. However, the Stamford pair grabbed 11 shots in six ends to earn an area final at Louth on January 30 against Allan Dent Snr and his partner, who beat Lincoln's Smith and Draper 19-16.

Christine Ford ended Jenny Harvey's hopes of retaining three Northants Federation titles when she beat her in a thrilling Senior 4-bowl singles match 21-20.
