Stamford Men's 'A' Team in North v South Playoff

The final of the Lincolnshire men’s League will be between Lincoln and District, the holders, and Stamford ‘A’ -  to be played at Boston on Sunday, April 14.

Needing eight points from their final league game at home to Boston ‘B’ to overtake southern section league leaders Spalding, Stamford never looked in danger of not achieving their goal and with three winning rinks and the overall shots total captured 12 of the 14 points at stake.

They won 121-64 to climb above Spalding by four points (97-93) after a 10-match season which started back in September with a 40-shot win and maximum points in Boston.

Taking the rink honours were Mick Humphreys, Dave Heffernan, Neil Wright and Adam Warrington who converted a 19-1 halfway lead into 32-7 after 21 ends.

But they were pushed close by Mick Linnell’s four (35-13) in which Ken Rawlins was making his ‘A’ team debut as a highly effective lead.

Also making a first appearance was Jim Pryor, who impressed in Jon Earl’s rink comeback after trailing 6-11. Counts of five and six in three ends put paid to their opponents’ challenge.

Stamford B lost all points at Grantham in their last fixture of the season (scores to follow).

Owen Aspinall & Ollie Jeapes assist Lincolnshire to National Title

Lincolnshire won the Under 18 inter county double rink title at Nottingham on Sunday.

Owen and Ollie combined with Jack Wells (Spalding) to beat Hampshire 37-29 in the semi-final then toppled Suffolk 41-24, contributing a 20-10 victory on their rink.

It was a fitting finale to the weekend which had seen the pair of Stamford's juniors play in the counties Under 25 Double Rinks side on the Saturday when they were beaten by a strong Kent side 50 -18.
