A new entry system has been introduced for the Nigel Kettle Open Singles due to take place at Stamford Indoor Bowls Club on the weekend of September 28-29, in which last year the club's Stephen Harris finished runner-up to Michael Knight from Reading.

Players can now enter directly online through bank transfer (£17.50) at https://www.opensinglescircuit.com/ from July 19 or with cash direct to Stamford IBC.

Whichever option they take, players must first register their details in a free account on the circuit's website.

Say the organisers: "When an event opens its entries, a tournament details page will become available with an 'ENTER EVENT' button, giving players the option to pay online or by cash.

"Once payment has been confirmed, entry will be secured automatically and the player's name will appear on the list of entries. If a local player has no internet access, cash payments can be accepted by the tournament venue, which then informs Open Singles Circuit with the player's name and club and an account will be created to secure their space."

First prize for the Stamford tournament is expected to be £750.

SAINTS SUFFER 8-0 WHITEWASH

Stamford Saints completed their schedule of away matches in the English Indoor Bowls 'Fantastic Fives' summer league with a comprehensive defeat at Charnwood, who are chasing qualification for the knock-out stages.

It didn't look good from the start when Roger Graham, after trailing the jack for two on the first end, lost 21-4 to M Griffin before Jeff and Jeanette Bourne, Rose March and Isobel Reading lost the fours 9-6.

In the pairs, Jeff and Rose led 4-3 but conceded five shots and went on to lose 11-6. In the triples, the Saints flattered to deceived and after trailing by just one, they dropped 19 shots in the next seven ends.
