By winning all five rinks and picking up a maximum 18 points at home to Spalding on Sunday, Stamford A surged to the top of the Lincs League with 65 points - and a game in hand on their nearest rivals.

The result never looked in doubt when Stamford led by 16 shots after five ends and by 55 after 10 of the 21 ends, thanks chiefly to the rink of Richard Allam, Michael Humphreys, Tony Scarr and Roger Martin who led by 20 and went on to take the rink honours 37-8.

Elsewhere Martyn Dolby's rink won 27-14, Paul Bailey - with 11 year old Owen Aspinall in his quartet - won 24-14 and Adam Warrington - against the youth and experience of Jordan Philpott and Maurice Elding - triumphed 19-16 in an exciting tussle.

Shot of the day, however, must go to Trevor Collins whom on the 15th end drew perfectly on to a holding Spalding bowl to wrest it off the green for a five count. His rink went on to win 32-13.

In the county pairs, Jay Travis-Jenner and Paul Bailey won a thrilling home battle with Boston's Adrian Field and Wayne Phoenix. They trailed 9-12 after taking an early then won four of the last five ends to win 16-13, Bailey drawing two shots to a ditched jack to clinch the tie.

June Brennan and Christine Ford represented Stamford in the Lincs women's county pairs at Lincoln. They won their first Round against Skegness but lost in the next round.
