The EIBA's major team competitions - including the Denny and Yetton Cups - will revert back to 21 ends after an 18-end trial during the 2016-17 season.

However, despite only 22% supporting it in a survey, the individual competitions will face a further 18-end and 16-end trial for 2017-18. 71% backed reverting to 21 ends for team and individual competitions (18 ends for triples).

Among the team competitions sticking with the 18-end format are the men's and women's Over 60 double rinks and the Top Club competitions.

Introduced for next season will be a women's two-bowl singles and a three-bowl Over 50 women's triples.

Of the 2,900 questionnaires sent out to individuals, clubs and counties, only 17% responded.

Adam Warrington and Martyn Dolby will contest the final of the Federation two-bowl pairs after defeating clubmates Bob Warters and Roger Martin.

With a string of two-counts they raced into a 13-3 lead and although their opponents recovered to 11-17 and held three shots to force a 21st end, Dolby found yet another key bowl to put the result beyond doubt at 17-12. They will play Nick Wilkie and Joe Randall who beat Stephen Harris and Peter Edwards 20-12.

In the two-bowl triples Mick Humphreys. John Holroyd and Kevin Vinter overcame the City trio of Joe Martin, Terry Corney and Jeff Pitt with an 18-11 win to reach the finals which are to be played at Stamford on Sunday, March 19 (10am).

They will play defending champions Harris, Cliff Watson and Edwards, who beat Howard Shipp, Wilkie and Randall 16-12.

Northants Federation carried off the Top Team Trophy at the EBF Potters Week at the Hopton on Sea holiday destination. Team organiser Dick Ford (Ketton) received the trophy from Greg Harlow and EBF President Paul Bennett accompanied by a couple of Potters characters.

Rinks skipped by Graham Agger and Dick Noble were the only ones to reach the quarter-finals with Noble and his wife and Mick and Margaret Linnell, losing out on a semi-final spot on a measure. Richard Monrgomery's rink reached the last 16.

Sad to report that John Dickenson, former national President of both the Northants Bowling Federation and former chairman and President of the English Bowling Federation has died after a long battle with cancer.

As well as being a former winner of the EBF pairs (with David Broadhurst of D&M Sports, bowls retailers) he was one of the first in the area to use coloured bowls back and the 1970s and 80s.

Stamford bowlers David Howarth, Peter Cox, Maurice Dye and Denis Henshaw carried off the rink honours (39-5) for the Lincs IBA team in the 137-101 defeat of Cambs IBA at Peterborough.

Rinks were also provided from Grantham, Lincoln, Boston and Skegness.
