Denis and Stella Henshaw from Ryhall were inaugurated as Presidents of the Stamford and District Indoor Club for the 2014-15 season at the club's annual presentation evening. They succeed Brian and Anita Edwards from Bourne.

The pair kicked off their 12 month reign on Sunday with an emphatic 127-113 defeat of Lincolnshire Vice Presidents, with Pam Barton, Sue Wright, Alec March and John Holroyd taking the rink

Anita, who picked up the women's pairs and rinks titles in the club competitions and was runner-up in the triples, is currently recovering from a hand and wrist operation but is determined to defend her titles, and be bowling again in the New Year. The oldest of the prize recipients was 92-year-old Arthur Chapman who figured in several winning league teams.

Two Spalding players called up for England international trials - Graham Smith and Martin Spencer - proved the undoing of Stamford A in their first Lincolnshire Indoor Bowls League Division One home match.

Skipping on adjoining rinks Smith was hugely influential in the 33-12 defeat of Jonathan Earl's quartet, while Spencer, recovered from serious illness which had led to missing his England debut last season, persistently drew his rink out of trouble with unerring accuracy against Roger Martin, in an 18-14 scoreline.

Elsewhere there were excellent late flourishes for Stamford which led to rink victories skipped by Cliff Watson, Keith Rippin and Peter Edwards to at least claim six of the 18 points available from an 87-103 shots total.

Result

Stamford 87 (6pts), Spalding 103 (12). A Romaine, R Montgomery, B Warters, R Martin lost 14-18 ( v M Spencer); W Morris, M Bailey, A Warrington, J Earl lost 12-33 (G Smith); M Ramsden, R Keating, J Holroyd, C Watson won 24-19 (J Needham); J Travis-Jenner, S Travis, R Allam, K Rippin won 15-14 (A Dawson); S Harris, B Plowman, D King, P Edwards won 22-19 (P Simpson).
