Double Header for Stamford Bowlers

A clash of dates involving the men’s county team finals, for which Stamford Indoor Bowls Club has qualified, and the club’s own internal championships this weekend, has caused competition secretary Derek King more than a few headaches.

But the jovial former farmer took it all in his stride to ensure no players were compromised and left with difficult choices.

As a result all those involved in the Stamford A v Lincoln South/North final at Louth on Saturday will have the chance to challenge for club titles the following day, with several players making multiple appearances.

Among them are Adam Warrington and Chris Ballard, who on Tuesday fought out a tight battle in the semi-final of the men’s singles, which Warrington edged 21-17. He now faces singles circuit specialist Jeff Pitt in the final in a bid to win the title for only the second time in 20 years.

The Stamford-based accountant also features in the men’s rinks and triples - both against Ballard teams.

Elsewhere, Richard Allam makes a farewell appearance in the Open Senior singles against former darts impresario Bernie Crouch before moving to Boston next season. Tony Barwell faces fast-improving Kevin Tuck in the sets singles.

All but one of the women’s events will be staged in a packed programme on Saturday from noon.
