Empingham bowler Doug Want is battling a double injury in a bid to compete in the English Bowling Federation indoor finals at Newark next week (April 22-26).

The 70-year-old Stamford IBC member, who won the Northants Over 65 singles title for the second time in five years, is due to play the winner of the Northumberland v Notts tie on Wednesday evening but is recovering from a hip and shoulder injury.

"Obviously I'm desperate to play but it's looking doubtful at the minute, unless the doctor gives me the all clear by the end of this week," said Want whose wife Jan has qualified with Christine Ford in the women's pairs next Thursday (9.30am) against Suffolk.

Other Stamford bowlers competing are Martyn Dolby in the men's singles against Kevin Moore (North Essex, Wed 9.30 am), Jon Bailey against Rob Elmore (Hunts, Friday 2.30pm) and Joyce Foster, Connie Cox and Glenys Edwards in the women's triples taking on Humberside (Tuesday 12.30pm).
