Richard Allam Reaches County Semi Finals

Richard Allam Reaches County Senior Singles Semi Finals

Having a bye in the first round of the knock out stages of the Lincolnshire IBA's Senior singles meant a later start on Saturday at Boston which Richard Allam capitalised on to overcome fellow Stamford competitor, John Holroyd who had earlier beaten Ray Brown from Scunthorpe. Allam now goes on the play Paul Bark  from Horncastle in the semi finals at Sleaford on Sunday April 2nd.

Fellow Stamford qualifier, Jeff Pitt accounted for Jon Maury from Skegness in his first match but faltered against Paul Flatters from Boston playing on his home rink.

At the same venue the Under 18 knock out rounds saw Stamford's Owen Aspinall playing against fellow club member Ollie Jeapes. This close fought encounter saw Aspinall gaining the upper hand in the early rounds but Jeapes fought back valiantly to win the game and a place in the semi finals at Sleaford.

The semi finals will be held at Sleaford on Sunday April 2nd.

At home against Boston Ladies, Stamford secured a narrow 4 shots victory last week in The Linconshire Trudy Bates League (Southern Section). Whilst Boston won on two rinks the points gained by Stamford enabled them to leapfrog Boston into second place with one game each to play which is the return leg at Boston on Wednesday. However only second place will be at stake as Spalding are well clear at the top of the league and will play Lincoln in the play off game to decide the overall league winner.

Northamptonshire County Federations Finals

The finals were hosted by Peterborough & District on Sunday this year where Northants Federation President,  Martyn Dolby celebrated the finals with a win over clubmate Kevin Vinter in Veterans Singles 21-9; whilst Ladies President, Shirley Suffling teamed up with Stamford's Chris Ford to win the Ladies Pairs against Viv Afford & Michelle Smith 22-9.

One final was held over from the Sunday due to one of the contestants, Stephen Harris of Stamford, being on international duty playing for England against the home nations in Abbeyview, Scotland where England came second to the 'auld' enemy despite the rink in which Stephen played winning against Scottish master, Alex Marshall. So the Men's singles final was payed at Stamford on Tuesday evening where Richard Allam put up strong resistance being in front on several occasions only for Harris to show his steely determination in fighting back.
Allam lost a little momentum towards the end of the game when he conceded three shots for Harris to capitalise on the opportunity to win the encounter by 21 shot to 17.

Stamford's Elizabeth Wallace won the Ladies Senior Singles 21-13 against club mate Margaret King having earlier lost in the Singles to Michelle Smith.  However, in the Ladies Triples Margaret King having teamed up with clubmates Moira Holroyd and Pat Jones gained some revenge by beating Viv Afford, Michelle Smith, Liz Hext 20-10.

Other Stamford successes included Paul Dalliday who teamed up with his Parkway colleague Tristan Morton in the Pairs to beat Stamford's Wayne Morris 23-7 who was partnered by Stuart Agger who was substituting for Stephen Harris who was on international duty. Dalliday and Morton were joined by Simon Law in the Triples where they defeated Stamford's Richard Allam, John Holroyd, Kevin Vinter 22-9.

The Under 25 Singles had only one entrant. that of Ollie Jeapes, last years' national champion at Newark who goes forward to defend his title this year at Lincoln.
