Malcolm Smith and Martyn Dolby have reached the Area 5 final of the Over 60 pairs with a 26-6 win over clubmates Bob Warters and Roger Martin.

It was a well deserved victory in which Smith drew with precision and Dolby played both accurately and uncharacteristically aggressively when necessary. The tactics worked and they led 13-0 within just a handful of ends and their opponents finally conceded when a five count put the result beyond doubt.

EXTRA END THRILLER

It took an extra end to separate Peter and Glenys Edwards and Cliff Watson from Roger Martin Joan Robinson and Mick Humphreys in the Northants Federation mixed triples before the former went through to the semi-finals 20-19.

Against veteran Wilf Redhead, Martyn Dolby had to dig deep to beat the Peterborough bowler who led 14-8 with some outstanding running bowls in the .veterans singles. Defending champion Dolby, however, finally prevailed 21-15.

Richard Allam reached the semi-finals of the Northants Federation singles, defeating Tony Barwell 21-20. He plays Paul Dalliday or Mike Ramsden.

Allam, currently in a rich vein of form, joined Derek King in the pairs to beat John Holroyd and Neil Wright, who conceded at 3-21.

In the men's triples, however, Wright joined fellow Parkway bowlers Trevor Collins and Jeff Newson to beat Mike Ramsden, Doug Want and Pete Linnell 24-10.

The Holroyd family - John, Moira and daughter Helen reached the semi-final of the mixed triples but had to work hard to beat Jenny Harvey, Mick Linnell and the outstanding Carol Hunter 18-12.
