Friendly team on roll

Captain Denis Stapleton reports: Our friendly team are on a roll !

Their latest win being an impressive 132 - 87 away to Sleaford.

The success was mainly due to our best rink skipped by Trevor Christie winning 29-8 who pipped Dennis Henshaw's rink which won 28-8. But the most impressive achievement was the rink skipped by Doug Ellis. After eleven ends out of twenty one they were trailing by 17-4 but with the help of two fours and a six gained over the last ten ends they turned the deficit around to win by one shot 24-23. While the win was very satisfying it was very disappointing to be four players short until Dennis and Stella Henshaw stepped into the breach and Sleaford lent us two of their players. It's pretty unbelievable that with a membership of over 500 we struggle to field a team of twenty four. We play Spalding away on the 6th February in the second leg of the annual Silver Salver match. We are taking a 30 shot lead from our home win in the first leg in our attempt to retain the trophy that we won last year. Let's hope we can take the required number of 24 players as well!

Rink scores against Sleaford (our names only) Rosemary Roberts, Maggie Holden, Denis Stapleton, Dennis Henshaw won 28-8; Peter Almond, Irene Hansell, Phil Rhodes, Doug Ellis won 24-23; Tina Knights, Daphne Lowe, Tim Stokes, Garry Knights lost 16-13; Janet Dye, Serena Brunning, Ron Blake, Maurice Dye won 20-15; Arthur Chapman, Janet Duffy, Stan Godfrey, Mark Hebden lost 17-18.
