Tough Start for County League Women

The Lincs indoor county (Trudy Bates) League didn’t start well for Stamford women - humbled by Spalding 126-55, conceding all 14 points.

So it was a tough baptism for several players making their league debut but they quickly appreciated the standard needed to compete at this level and will no doubt be better for the experience.

DEATH OF FORMER CHAIRMAN

Stamford Indoor Bowls Club is sad to report the death of George Randall a former chairman of directors and the management committee from 2007-2010.

He was also a bowls coach and president of the club in 1996. He leaves a widow, Helen.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.

Stamford bowlers face a double header of mixed matches this weekend - away at Spalding in the Lincs League and home and away against Peterborough in the national Egham Trophy.

BIG DENNY CHALLENGE

Spalding IBC, National champions of the EIBA Inter-club Denny Cup, face local rivals Stamford IBC as they begin their defence of their title on Saturday, November 5.

It will be a titanic struggle for Stamford, against a side with international credentials but captain Tony Barwell has chosen loyalty, with an eye to the future and which he knows will be determined to give a good account of themselves.

Simultaneously, Stamford women will play Sleaford in the Yetton Trophy. A team has yet to be selected.

National Over 60 Double Rink Team

Stamford IBC ‘A’ will play Peterborough at home and away simultaneously in the EIBA Over 60 Double Rink competition on November 8 at 10 am. The aggregate score will decide the winner, who will face Stamford B on November 29.

Christmas Open Fours Tournament Entry Forms Available

Entries for the annual Stamford IBC Christmas Open Fours tournament on December 28 are now available from reception at the club in Exeter Gardens. Cost is £20 a team with cash prizes available. Teams are guaranteed four seven-end sessions, with points award for match wins and ends won. Closing date is December 15. Food is available if booked in advance.

Club Competitions Now Open for Entries

Entry forms can now be accepted for Stamford IBC internal club competitions, with a closing date of November 15. Cost is £1 per player, per competition which includes, singles, pairs, triples and fours as well as open seniors, novices and mixed competitions.

DOLBY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF NORTHANTS FEDERATION

Martyn Dolby (Blackstones) has been installed as president of the Northants Bowling Federation for the next two years. The position had remained vacant since 2020.

He is a former president of Bowls Lincolnshire and chairman of the Stamford & District Bowls League. He won the Stamford IBC singles on ten occasions.

The four team captain roles are filled by Simon Law (Northants A) & Ray Keating (Northants B) in the indoor Derbyshire Trophy and Neil Wright (Northants Adams) & Dave Corney (Newton).elected to the management committee were Wright (Parkway) and Ally McNaughton (Wittering).

Added to the match programme is a fixture against Hunts Bowls (EBA) at Whittlesey Manor on May 20, which will serve as a county trial for both codes. Next year’s NBF and NWBF county indoor finals will be at Peterborough & District on Sunday, March 19. The outdoor finals at Whittlesey Manor on Sunday, July 23.

The national indoor finals at Newark are April 24-30, with Skegness from August 19-26. The outdoor championships will start on the afternoon of Monday August 21 to allow the organisers extra time to accommodate any subsequent delays.
