Avoid set events when offering dates for nationals

THOUGH the Stamford club is delighted to see so many entries into national competitions, bowlers should be advised they must avoid set national events when offering dates and times for competitions, writes Bob Warters.

These set dates include Denny Cup and Plate, Yetton Trophy and Plate, Top Club and Egham Trophy on weekends, as well as international and representative matches - all of which are listed in the EIBA handbook and the EIBA website (www.eiba.co.uk/competitions).

Says Area secretary Graham Smith there are some exceptions, including offering a time after 3pm on set dates but these should be avoided, too where possible.

He adds:"Players need to do their homework before offering times and dates for national competitions, checking set dates in the handbook and the EIBA website."

FOOTNOTE: Set dates also include men's Over 60s Double rink, Under 25 double rink and women's Masons Trophy.
