DRAW MADE FOR PRESIDENTS’ GALA

A maximum 24 teams have entered Stamford Indoor Bowls Club’s Presidents’ Charity gala on Saturday, March 2 - a three-ball triples event.

Held in aid The Evergreen Trust and hosted by club presidents Ian Hall and Margaret King (who made the draw), the tournament will have two start times - one group beginning the first of four 6-end sessions at 9.30 am, the second group begins and our later.

Played under EIBA rules with re-spots in play when ends are ‘killed’, points are scored for a match win and each end won.

 Meals are available and must be ordered in advance.

SENIOR STROLL AT SLEAFORD

Taking maximum points, Stamford’s Senior team cruised to a 91-68 win at Sleaford in the Lincs Over 60s League on Monday.

Roger Martin’s rink of Don Bruce, Dennis Henshaw and Pete Smith took the rink honours, eventually winning 24-16 after leading 22-4 at 13 ends.

No such good fortune for Shirley Suffling’s Stamford mixed team at Spalding, where the maximum points were reversed as the home team won 88-44 to extend their lead at the top of the table.

LINCS SEMI-FINALIST

Ollie Jeapes (14) will play Ian Clarke (Boston) in the semi-finals of the Lincs IBA singles at Louth on March 17 after making it through the qualifying stages at Lincoln on Saturday.

The winner will play either Dominic McVittie (Spalding) or Richard Ashton (Lincoln) in the finals, also at Louth in April.

Also representing Stamford, John Holroyd, Jeff Pitt and Chris Ballard failed to qualify from the earlier rounds, while Tony Barwell had to withdraw.

FOOTNOTE: Jeapes and Stephen Harris representing Spalding Lightning, reached the final of the EIBA Denny Cup, defeating Falcon IBC from Chelmsford at Riverain IBC.

Elizabeth Wallace, Moira Holroyd and Chris Ford reached the last eight of the Lincs Triples against Lincoln, battling back from a 10-1 deficit to beat a Boston trio 22-17.

A & B chasing bragging rights

Bragging rights and vital points are up for grabs when Stamford IBC’s two men’s teams meet on Saturday in their biannual Lincolnshire League (South) fixture.

The ‘A’ team, chasing Spalding to retain the southern section title, are without a handful of regulars but it’s a chance for Paul Shaw, Alfie Hynes, John Pearson and Dave Heffernan to make an impact, with regular captain Tony Barwell also awaiting an operation and out of action.

FEDERATION RESULTS

Adam Warrington, Chris Ford and Stephen Harris reached the final of Sunday’s Northants Bowls Federation mixed triples with a comprehensive defeat of Paul Dalliday, Simon Law and Stephen’s sister Louise.

They raced into an 18-1 lead and eventually won 21-7 and will meet Jeff Clipston, Liz Hext and Ray Keating (deputising for Cliff Watson) in the final.

The Harris’s had earlier combined to reach the mixed pairs final, where they will meet Elizabeth Wallace and Chris Ballard, having beaten Michelle & Ian Smith 20-19.

In the men’s pairs, reward came for Ally McNaughton (Wittering) in taking on the role of competition results secretary, when with Pete Linnell (Blackstones) he reached the final of the men’s pairs.

They beat Neil Wright (Parkway) and Roger Martin (Whittlesey Manor) 18-15 and will face Ollie Jeapes and Simon Law (or sub Stuart Popple) in the final on Sunday.
