Following the postponement because of Covid restrictions of an open day to encourage newcomers to bowls, Stamford Indoor Bowls Club will now host its introduction to the game on Saturday, February 12 from 10am to 4pm.

More than 30 bowlers signed up in September for regular Saturday morning coaching, most of whom have joined as full members and are embarking on a series of organised friendlies and competitive domestic league matches.

But after an Open Day scheduled for Saturday, January 8, had to be postponed, the club is now hoping a fresh intake will try the sport on a new day devoted to recruitment. Experienced players and coaches will be available at the club’s world class, six rink facility in Exeter, Gardens. Tuition is free as is all equipment.

The club, which has a bar and restaurant requires that visitors wear a face covering, unless exempt, when entering and moving around the club’s social areas but these can be removed when seated to eat or drink and on the bowling green.

Says Development committee chairman Ian Hall: “Current members are encouraged to bring a friend along for the session. Players who already play outdoors are also invited to attend as taking up the game indoors will not only enable them to bowl year round, they will be learning fresh skills and making new friends in a different environment.”
