Senior Men Close in on County League Leaders
Stamford’s Senior bowlers narrowed the gap between themselves and Lincs Over 60s League (South) leaders Lincoln A with a comprehensive defeat of bottom team Boston B on Wednesday.
They collected all 14 points in a victory that saw them claim exactly double the shots of their visitors (110-55) winning on all four rinks.
They didn’t claim the top rink prize but Kevin Vinter’s quartet of Jeff Bourne, Steve Miner and Bernie Crouch deserve special mention after battling back from 3-14 to win 27-16 scoring on the last seven ends without reply including a 7-count.
Trevor Christie’s rink, however (with Alan Romaine, Peter Burt and Derek King), went one better with a maximum 8-count on the third end of 30-15 victory.

DEATH OF FORMER BOWLER
Stamford Indoor Bowls Club is sad to report the death of Hazel Cotterill on New Year’s Eve. She was also a former member of Wittering and Ketton outdoor clubs. Funeral details will be announced when they are known.
OPEN DAY COMING SOON
Saturday, January 14 has been earmarked as an opportunity to try the sport of indoor bowls, when our local club based off Exeter Gardens in Stamford (PE9 2RN) opens its doors to encourage new players.
The six rink arena, with its state of the art 40 metre square carpet and viewing gallery, can accommodate as many as 48 bowlers playing competitively simultaneously. Equipment and tuition is provided free of charge and members will be on hand to show newcomers the ropes.
The event is open from 10am to 4pm with access to its bar and restaurant.
Stamford IBC is open seven days a week for roll-ups, domestic leagues and friendly and inter-club matches as one of 10 clubs in the Lincolnshire indoor Bowling Association.
