Stamford begin the Hunt for a National Team Trophy

For their return to the prestigious Egham Trophy on Sunday (10 am) after the pandemic forced the competition's cancellation last year, Stamford Indoor Bowls Club faces a tough assignment against Leicestershire club Barwell.

The competition demands four mixed rinks playing simultaneously - two at home and two away - with the aggregate score deciding who progresses to the next round against either Charnwood or Church Gresley.

Stamford take on local rivals Grantham on Saturday, November 6 in what promises to be a close Denny Cup tussle (10 am) - two four-man rinks at home and two away with aggregate scores to count.

The team has lost several of its regulars to retirement or moves to other clubs which has created the opportunity for others to make their mark, including Tony Barwell, Chris Ballard and Ally McNaughton.

Having progressed to the last 16 in the past, Stamford A team, competing in the national Over 60 double rink, are hoping to re-kindle some of that form when they visit Sleaford B in the first round on Tuesday, November 9, when home and away rinks play 21 ends simultaneously from 10 am. Stamford B, meanwhile, play Grantham.

CLUB COMPETITION DEADLINE EXTENDED

Stamford Indoor Bowls Club members have an extra week to submit their entries for club competitions. The closing date has been extended from October 30 to November 7 which will enable a public draw to be made on Friday, November 12 during the club's regular social evening.

All club members can take part in a range of competitions throughout the winter months on pre-scheduled nights, which will culminate in the finals weekend on April 9/10, 2022.

As well as singles, pairs, triples and fours for men and women, there are three mixed competitions and an Open singles for seniors aged 65 and over. A novice triples is available to those who have never won a club competition and were not a member prior to 2017. Entry fee is £1 per player per competition.

Forms are available on reception and should be completed and posted into the box provided together with appropriate entry fees.
